Women's Volleyball Goes to Arizona

At the end of October, women's volleyball took a trip to Arizona to compete in three league games. The first game of their weekend on the road was against Benedictine University, the #1 ranked team in the conference.   The Pioneers went down in three sets with scores of 18-25, 15-25, and 15-25. After a long day of traveling, the girls were tired but still managed to compete with the BenU Redhawks. They started off the first set very strong and then held a good rhythm in the next two sets. Madison Kindred and Izzy Bandy led the team with 7 kills each. Melisa Lopez had 23 assists, and Olivia Newman with 13 digs.

The next match of their three-game weekend was against the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles. The Pioneers went down in three sets with scores of 11-25, 18-25, and 14-25. This was the second time this season that the Eagles and Pioneers have met this season, and the Pioneers were hoping for a better result. Izzy Bandy led the team with 5 kills and 4 blocks. Olivia Newman had an impressive 16 digs through the three sets.

The last match of their three-game weekend was against the Park University-Gilbert Buccaneers. The Pioneers went down in three sets with scores of 16-25, 24-26, and 11-25. The Buccaneers are ranked #3 in the conference, and the Pioneers put up a good fight against them. In the second set, the Pioneers kept with them until the very end. Claire Harlan-Maghan and Izzy Bandy led the team with 6 kills, and 3 blocks each. Though this weekend didn't end with the results that the Pioneers were hoping for, they played well against highly-ranked teams.

Their last two matches will be this weekend against the University of California-Merced, and Simpson University. Stay tuned for scores and results.
