Merced, CALIFORNIA - For the 1st time in program history, the Lady Pioneers will be playing in the CalPac Championships and for the opening round UC Merced hosted the Pioneers on November 5th. Kickoff was at 7:30 PM PDT under the lights.
UC Merced came out strong, with their 1st goal coming from Merced player Trinity Dunbar off of a penalty kick. The Bobcats would continue to attack again, and in the 14th minute, they would score their 2nd goal coming from Kaeley Cariglio. The Pioneers would be overwhelmed again in the 35th minute as Merced would score their 3rd goal, which came from Bobcat player Trinidad Quiroz. The score would be 3-0 going into halftime and the Pioneers were hoping to start a comeback.
The Pioneers came out tough and pushed into the Bobcats defense. Unfortunately, UC Merced would strike again in the 69th minute Jocelyne Garcia. The Pioneers kept attacking but were unable to secure a goal as the final whistle blew, ending the game 3-0 in favor of UC Merced. Pioneer goalkeeper Jayleen Casillas would end the game with 7 saves.
Nothing but praise for the Pacific Union Women's team as they were amazingly able to reach the conference playoffs for the first time in program history. They will continue to work hard in the off-season in hopes of reaching the playoffs once again!
