The Pioneers kicked off their conference play as they traveled to Arizona to face off Embry-Riddle University on Friday and Benedictine-Mesa on Sunday. The weather held clear blue skies and it was about 75 degrees which made the atmosphere great for players and fans.
The Pioneers came in ready to face off against the nationally ranked Eagles, but the Eagles were able to put 2 away in the first half. After halftime the boys turned it around as Issay Bravo scored in the 57th minute, making it 2-1 and putting the pressure on the Eagles. Embry-Riddle would then go on to score a goal in the 73rd minute making it 3-1. But the Pioneers weren't going to quit as Danny Castro scored in the 84th minute making it 3-2.
Unfortunately, the final whistle blew and the Pioneers were unable to come out with the win, but it was a hard-fought game and many lessons were learned to take on to their next game.
Jake Hendricks finished the game with 6 saves while Kevin Gill, Danny Castro, and William Biondini recorded 1 shot on goal. Issay Bravo had 2 shots on goal.
The Pioneers will play Benedictine-Mesa on Sunday at Bell Park for their 2nd conference game of the season.
